Everyone is welcome to attend my classes; all ages, body types and abilities! Classes combine gentle stretching, balancing and strengthening movements with mindful breathing to create a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
Peaceful Stretch -Tuesdays 7-8pm through May 24th
This is an eclectic class format that I created. We warm up on the floor with slow, small, intentional movements that help release patterns of chronic stiffness in the fascia as well as gently stretching muscles and lubricating the joints. Then we explore a few standing movements focusing on core stability, balance and mental connectedness. We then add longer held stretches to promote lasting flexibility. We finish with time in conscious relaxation which is deeply calming and soothing to the nervous system. No fee; donations optional (see below). Contact me for the Zoom access code for this class.

Sunset Stretch - free community class
Memorial Day to Labor Day
Join me on Tuesday evenings, weather permitting, 7:00-8:00 for a delightful hour of gentle movement and deep stretching. The heat and humidity of summer evenings help muscles relax and stretch more easily, sweating helps rid the body of toxins, and the beautiful surroundings are naturally soothing to the spirit! Bring a beach towel, water, and an exercise or yoga mat. There is no fee for this class and no reservation is needed.
Class meets at Black Hoof Park/Lake Lenexa (approximately 90th & Monticello Rd). Use the entrance for "Oak Shelter" and park in the shelter parking lot. Near the shelter you will see a trailhead; go to the right and follow the paved trail a short distance. You will come to an overlook (large concrete half-circle area); this is the spot for the class. The sun will be setting behind the trees (so it will be shady) and the lake will be in front of us. If you are not familiar with the walking trails just arrive a little early, watch for people carrying yoga mats and follow them!
If there is inclement weather class will be cancelled and I will post it here and on my facebook page by 6:30pm. I do suggest checking before you head out to the lake, as weather can be beautiful in one part of town and stormy in another.

Are my classes the same as yoga?
My classes are an eclectic blend of movement, stretching and relaxation techniques. Yoga is traditionally much more than that; it is a complex combination of philosophy, spirituality, ideology and physical practices found in ancient Eastern culture. In Western culture, "yoga" classes and instructors vary greatly in adherence to (and understanding of) the traditions that are such an important part of the authentic practice. Out of respect for true yogis, and to present myself honestly, I do not label my classes as authentic yoga. That being said, others may casually refer to my classes as "yoga" since that term is becoming more generic...
There are certainly some physical similarities, as many basic yoga "poses" are actually simple stretches and positioning that release tightness in the back and promote good posture. I use versions of them in my classes, as well as basic breathing instruction as used in beginner's yoga, as I feel it is the best way to teach the physiology of the breath. From there, I take creative license and incorporate techniques from a wide variety of movement modalities to construct my sequences. I do not incorporate Eastern or New Age spirituality into any of my classes.
I welcome any questions or comments you may have; please email me HERE. I hope to hear from you or see you in a class soon!
